 'Messerschmitts at 3 o'clock' 24" x 18" Glazed oil original

'Messerschmitts at 3 o'clock'

Also known as 'Messers at 3' by John's terminology. This 24" x 18" Glazed Oil on plywood depicts a scene of five B2 Bombers fully loaded and in route towards an objective when... they encounter the two Nazi jet fighters patrolling enemy airspace across a partially cumulus background. It was during WWII that the German Luftwaffe brought the first of these jets to the war effort as early as 1941. The Nazis thought their air assault was unbeatable. However, the dedicated crews aboard the flying fortresses along with other allied bombers succeeded in bringing the fight to them.

The work itself could very well be a recreation from an old photograph, John would often rely on a model if he wanted to scale things to fit into a scene with adequate precision. Of course this is a common method with any artists working in realism but who then choose to add their own sense of impressionism. Because, while he used photos as a modeling tool, they were still black and white photos. Dad would add the color as he remembered it which is, as we all know, the right of the artist. This original glazed oil is priced at 4500.00 $$ plus tax.
